The Carling Knockout Cup will provide Kaizer Chiefs with yet another fresh attempt at silverware amid yet another worry in their camp as they welcome AmaZulu to FNB Stadium.

Chiefs have had to sing a chorus of frustration in acknowledging how long they continue to wait for silverware having lasted lifted a trophy back in May 2015.

Ending the barren trophy spell will mean moving past AmaZulu then into the quarterfinals, semifinals and winning the decider which is four games.

The air of anticipation is normal for AmaKhosi with the start of a new competition and after being bundled out in the MTN8 semifinals, they will have a sense of hope especially with Mamelodi Sundowns no longer involved.

However, for the trophy chase to come into fruition, AmaKhosi must fix their scoring issues upfront.

In a week when the horrific injury suffered by Bernard Parker sent reminders that the veteran attacker remains the club’s all-time top scorer in the PSL era years stretching back to August 1996 with 62 goals, Chiefs still have scoring garden fresh scoring issues.

With nine games played in the league, Ashley du Preez has one goal just like Christian Basomboli Saile while the two new signings upfront Ranga Chivaviro and Efmamjjasond Gonzalez are both yet to score which is a poor return by any means.

From a distance Ntseki has chosen to be diplomatic yet behind the scenes he knows very well that he needs his forward to start delivering goals.

The relevance of this was in the line of questioning that he must respond with every appearance before the media and this week was no different.

In his response, Ntseki acknowledged that scoring goals remains a problem that has psychological elements attached to it.

Words such as composure, worried, missing chances, and mental side came flowing from his mouth which is all aspects that Chivaviro, Saile, Gonzalez, and Du Preez are having to deal with.

Saturday’s Carling Knockout Cup match between AmaKhosi and Usuthu starts at 18h00.
