The question of who was better between Kaizer Chiefs idol Doctor Khumalo and Orlando Pirates midfield maestro Teboho Moloi always comes up whenever fans talk about past glories.

Though most people believe Khumalo's achievement at the international level puts him ahead of Moloi, their former teammates Wade Du Plessis and William Shongwe believe both legends were special in their own way.

"When I played as a Chiefs goalkeeper Tebogo was on the other side, and on a beautiful day Doctor would be above Tebogo," Du Plessis tells KickOff.

"Both of those players were good as they were used to blow hot and cold.

"They would shine for one or two games and go missing for one or two games then shine again.

"Maybe I will go for Doctor because I saw him doing a lot of stuff as a teammate.

"They were both top players and they used to delight the crowd for sure.

"But on his good day, Doctor might be a step ahead. That's my opinion anyway.

"Between 1991 and 1992 at Chiefs we won two league titles, we won two BP Top eights, we won Castle Challenge and Bob Save Superbowl...I don't remember what Pirates won those days."

"They were both good in their own way, but what I can tell you is that both of them didn't like gym," Shongwe added.

"As much as coaches wanted both of them to give at training as much as they did in a game, they made sure the coaches excused them.

"But maybe the longevity Doctor had in the game over Tebogo it's the difference.

"Doctor was lucky to be coached by somebody like Jeff Butler who pushed him to be a 90-minute player.

"Doctor was able to play for 90 minutes unlike Tebogo, Tebogo had his moments.

"But if you talk about talent and ability both of them were incredible.

"If Tebogo had gotten a coach who pushed him at Training I'm sure he could have achieved as much.

"Doctor's coach gave him that advantage over Tebogo. It's difficult to say Doctor was better, they were equally good."
