Among other highlights, Mduduzi Shabalala showed his quality with a brace during Kaizer Chiefs’ closed-doors practice match against University of Pretoria. Here are more things we learned from Amakhosi’s test against AmaTuks...

Chiefs travelled to the capital and played guests to Tuks on Friday in what has been described as a ‘practice friendly match’, although both teams put out strong squads according to sources.

The visitors battled from 2-0 down at half-time to salvage a 2-2 draw thanks to goals from Chiefs academy graduate Mduduzi Shabalala.

The match also saw head coach Cavin Johnson hand a chance to players like midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe, who has made just one competitive appearance for Chiefs this season.

Meanwhile, Brandon Petersen was between the sticks in the absence of Bruce Bvuma who is on national team duty with Bafana Bafana.

Chiefs though were still without defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, who suffered a shoulder injury on national duty with Botswana in November. However, after successful surgery, he is back at full training.

Luke Fleurs also did not get any action despite receiving the thumbs-up from both Johnson and teammate Given Msimango on his readiness to don the Black and Gold.

The result will serve as a boost in confidence for AmaTuks, who are undefeated in their last five matches in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with three wins and two draws.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi will hope for an improved showing when they return to competitive action against Cape Town City on Saturday.
