Cape Town City registered their first DStv Premiership victory in 2024 after defeating Moroka Swallows 2-0 on Tuesday night.
City made three changes following their loss against Orlando Pirates, as Thabiso Kutumela, Taahir Goedeman and Ahshene Jody Lee were recalled.
Swallows, meanwhile, only made one change from their win over Chippa United, as Siyabonga Khumalo was brought in.
The Birds should have been ahead on 11 minutes after they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Keanu Cupido in the box on Jacob Everson.
Former Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango stepped up for the visitors but fired his shot over the crossbar.
Eric Tinkler's charges upped their game and with ten minutes remaining before half-time, Darwin Gonzalez came close to the equaliser with a strike in the box that was saved by shot-stopper Daniel Akpeyi.
City kept on coming and on the stroke of half-time Lorenzo Gordinho also came close with a header from close range that was kept out by Akpeyi.
The Citizens were all over Swallows from the interval but could not get the breakthrough, with Khanyisa Mayo denied a couple of times by the Nigerian goalkeeper.
Gonzalez finally broke the deadlock for the Mother City side on 73 minutes from a rebound after Jaedin Rhodes' shot was saved by Akpeyi.
The Citizens changed their approach going forward moments later after they withdrew Mayo and brought on Jo Paciencia.
Paciencia had an immediate impact after he secured maximum points for City with the second goal five minutes before time after finishing off a cross by Relebohile Mokhuoane.
