South African star Cassius Mailula recently endured a tough decision by his club's management. but it seems to have motivated the player even more!

Toronto FC announced last week that the club has loaned forward Cassius Mailula to Toronto FC II, adding that it has reserved the right to recall the player to the first team "at any time during the MLS regular season."

However, while some players may become deflated and demotivated by such a decision, the 22-year-old has displayed a strong mindset and looks to be motivated to work his way back into the first team.

The player recently took to social media to upload an image of himself watching a game on his laptop, with his notebook open in front of him.

From the looks of it, Mailula seemed to have been analysing a previous performance of his and making notes on where he can improve. It is the mark of a true professional who understands in the pursuit of becoming the best, the work never stops.

"If it's been working and helping you to improve, why stop now," he wrote in an Instagram story.

Football matters

The former Mamelodi Sundowns player's demotion comes after he netted his first goal since arriving at the MLS club in July last year.

Mailula scored during his side's 5-0 thrashing of Simcoe County Rovers FC that helped them progress to the quarter-final of the Canadian Championship.

After the encounter, manager John Herdman said that he was pleased for the South African and explained why his game time has been limited.

“I’m really happy he got his goal,” he said per the club's official website.

“He's been really patient. When the games are one a week and you've got players like Osorio, [Lorenzo] Insigne, [Federico] Bernardeschi that play in those forward areas, it's very difficult for Cassius to get game time and minutes.”
