Pitso Mosimane to beat Gavin Hunt to Bafana job

Mosimane to be announced on Thursday

Posted: 2010-06-29 09:58

Pitso Mosimane will be confirmed as Bafana Bafana’s new coach on Thursday.

As expected, the man who assisted outgoing coach Carlos Alberto Parreira and his predecessor Joel Santana will be given the task of leading the national team to the 2012 African Nations Cup, as well as the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Also in the running was Gavin Hunt who, after winning three successive Absa Premiership titles with SuperSport United, was many people’s favourite to replace Parreira, but it seems the Safa bosses have opted for continuity instead.

There has been much debate on who the right choice is and that debate is set to continue – the avid student of Parreira or the successful club coach?

HAVE YOUR SAY: Is Pitso the right choice for Bafana?

Pitso we trust you, carry on evrything has been laid , one favour the starting line up against France stick to it, see if Mbazo cannt be droped, consider bringing Kermit Erasmus, Classen n Jali these boys are foundation for 2014 should you get big headed byebye with your empty stadium.

no1fan : 2010-06-29 10:13

We should never forget that Hunt's success was achieved on the back of Pitso's achievement in building Supersport United into a Cup winning and league challenging outfit.

thibos: 2010-06-29 10:24

OW MY GOD THIS 100 STEPS BACKWARDS, SA FOOTBALL IS RUN BY PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT SOCCER, HE WAS PART OF THE FAILING REGIME YET HE IS CHOSEN TO LEAD SA WONT QUALIFY FOR THE AFCON AND WORLD CUP RESPECTIVELY, SIES MAN, SAFA IS RUN BY PREDOMINANTLY BLACK PEOPLE AND MY UNDERSTANG IS THAT BLACK R SO ROTTEN CORRUPT

thibos: 2010-06-29 10:24 [ Report ]

this is too far , pls correct this insult against black people, corruption has no colour my man, this is insult aginst us, you are a clear indication of less learned black person, nothing more to say about you.

Chisto: 2010-06-29 10:32

Pitso is definitely the right choice. Hunt's success was due to foundation he laid at S/sport. Let him continue where they left with Parreira and see what happens and I appeal to the so-called new Safa leadership not to set him up for failure. He should keep the experienced guys in the squad for 2012 eg; Modise, Mbazo, etc and introduce some new blood.

Mafs: 2010-06-29 10:50

Pitso is the right man for the job. In fact him and Shakes Mashaba are the only local coaches who can take Bafana to the next level. Pitso has been the assistant for the past 5 years. The idea was for Parreira to groom him and ensure that he's ready to take over after the WC, that's exactly what has happened. Hunt must keep playing his favourite skop 'n doner at SSU, I personally don't wanna see Bafana playing such a crap football

Busani: 2010-06-29 10:53

Lets wait and see if we will ever qualify for Afcon and the next WC... though I'm struggling to see that happening... Whether he is the right or wrong person for the job, results will tell....

Can you KickOff people verify how much BB pocked after their failure, I'm told they smilling all the way to the bank...

Fuze 1: 2010-06-29 10:56

I don't careless if it is Pitso or what but all I am concerned about is Bafana Bafana improvement in the continent and internantionally. We supported them with all we had during the World Cup and there are many supporters of Bafana Bafana as we speak. The challenge is on the man to be a coach to makes us more happy. Unfortunately, I cannot accept any decline now but a constant rise in FIFA Ranking of Bafana Bafana. If Pitso will do that, so be him but there is no more learning now (sick and tired of that).

Razi: 2010-06-29 10:57

COngrats......mara der is a few issues u need to adress asap sir. 1 Teko Modise 2 Captain nd 3 Pa Gaxa

if u carry on supposting this guys we will go no were

Proffessor : 2010-06-29 11:00

So Pitso will be the new Bafana coach… hehehe… I will comment on Thursday once he is named!

@ Fuze - The Bafana players will pocket roughly R600 000 each… and also share that 3 million (goals scored in the tournament)

mthandos: 2010-06-29 11:13

well i personally think safa took the right decision if they indeed going to appoint pitso as the coach of bafana. however i would really want to see him selecting players on merit. normally these coaches tend to select players from their previous clubs in this case supersport. remember the Katza`s and Mashego`s.

Jacob/Styles: 2010-06-29 11:16

Some of us have already made comments with regard to Pitso's prospect of being appointed BB coach, and I still maintain that his appointment will serve the country good. He has been an understudy to Parreira and has been in the job for a while, which means he has garnered enough experience to lead our team. I know there is a contigent that believes he was part of the technical team that "failed the country to qualify for the last 16 in 2010 WC".

Honestly as SA's we need to conduct a reality check with our performance in the 2010 WC against the quality opposition we faced. I'm still thrilled by the manner in which Parreira and his technical team transformed BB. They competed with the best and yes the game against Uruguay was a low, however Uruguay's advancement in this mundial is a testimony that we were beaten by a far better team than ours. Let us be fair and realistic in our criticism as for ppl like thibos the less said the better (serious abomination).

When I was at primary school, these white ppl use to come and tell us ANC are communists will steal us to be slaves , we didnt know what communist was, we use to think its sort of animal that eat people, again they told us black ppl are nt capable to run this country, they told us blacks are good for nothing otherthan being kitchen girls and garden boys, they told us ANC is killing ppl in the townships.

I was surprised immediately after the democratic dispensation that Eugene de Kock was responsible for killing black ppl and supplying weapons to IFP to create violence, in KZN Vryheid dozens of arms cache were found hidden by Walter Felgate of IFP. I did nt know that white ppl can be responsible for evil deeds, I did nt know that FEDENTIA boss, SAMBOU GROUP, ALLAN KNOTT CRAIG of vodacom, PATRICK GILLINGHAM OF DEPT OF CORECTIONAL SERVICES, STANENNBAUM etc were blacks responsible for huge corruption in our country

I also did nt know that Nhleko Phuthuma of MTN , Tokyo, Monhla Hlahla, Patrice Mostepe etc were successful white people, I m still shock that the country is peaceful in the hands of white ANC that brought us WC2010, may God Bless

@Thibos

It is clear that you are still mentally enslaved, you believe this stupid notion that blacks are corrupt. Who said corruption has colour. You are a disgrace broer & who said SAFA has taken 100 steps backwards? This is the right step in terms of continuity. Pitso has been in the National team for the past four years & he learned from Pereira. Now its the time for him to continue from the foundation that Pereira has laid. Well done SAFa for giving the job to Pitso instead of the jealous Gavin Hunt who criticises everything that Pitso & Pereira did.

Bouga : 2010-06-29 11:27

Eish SUFFER. If anybody noticed, during BB games Pareira never talked to Pitso but rather that Leal guy which means he didnt value Pitso's opinion. With this in mind did Pitso learn anything or was he reduced to just window dresser? I dont think the man will go far. Lets kiss 2014 good bye. My dream Technical team woul have been Hunt(HC), Tovey(AC), Mnqithi(AC) He knows how to spot a talent, and Barker together with Mashaba as technical directors

You are absolutely correct. We as black people deserve better. Although we are black in colour our brains are not black, our brains are bright. Pitso can bring discipline and success in the team.

We should never forget that Hunt's success was achieved on the back of Pitso's

I totaly dissagree, Hunt was a better coach, and still is and he will be after you got rid of Pitso, let's say, the setup at SSPU is of high standard that any coach can succeed, and as for Pitso, he had his players, Hunt has formed his winning combination and Pitso did not win a league,

Swona: 2010-06-29 12:02

and he was not going to win a league sooner or later, we will see what all of you who believe in Pitso will say when we fail to qualify for the AFCON, we wish him luck, though I know Gaxa is going to be captain, Yeye is going to claim his position/permanent position in the middle of the park, Teko will shine backwards, in all games for 90min, and hate to say it, Pitso like his boss, wont make substitutions that will change a team, and I hate to say like Mokoena, he suffering from a disease called panic fever! players agents will select a team for us, Seara Leonne might get a draw with us on our own backyard, remember Namibia? thanks to Moon and his desisive passing skill, we mananged a draw, we were going to loose that game, and I am still bitter we drew that game here AT HOME,

sam: you are lost my man! hehehe

hahhhhhhaaaaa thats wat i noticed,

are u still around proff, eishhh long time neh,do u still feel it?
u know personally i don't think pitso is gud for our national team, now its time for us to see players like tsietsi mahoa, ntshumayelo, zongo, and glen salmon rather than building on wat we have, all players that were chosen i think age is still on their side so if he can change much i don't see us going to guinea 2012,that nqonca guy must be called everytime coz he looks like he can be a gud asset to us,

Mdletshe Muntu : 2010-06-29 12:20

Yes Pitso is a long serving B afana assistant bt he had no say unda all these coaches I think Gavin shuld also be in da technical team he has done well

Boitumelo: 2010-06-29 12:42

I so wish Hunt coaches Zambia & the first game he plays Bafana so he would prove that SAFA made a mistake by appointing Pitso.Pitso was a chance b4& he failed @the Cosafa Cup,we where beaten by minors Botswana,he failed us @ AFCON where we even failed 2score a single goal;hes favouritism wil kill BB,he is very defensive;his style of futbul only suits Supersport. He even failed2win the league, give him 3games 2prove himself if he fails he must b sacked

Boitumelo: 2010-06-29 12:59

SAFA must quickly organise frendlies,Pitso must select a squad that maily consist of those U20 boys who represented SA@ the U20 World Cup just to prepare the boys for the olympic qualifiers& to start building the squad 4 qualifiers. He mst drop those bunch of cows(Mbazo,Modise etc)If he makes Gaxa or Teko the captain, chooses Gaxa over Noon or Ncongca, then the South African supporters shud start boycotting Bafana

sam: 2010-06-29 13:14

Boitumelo: 2010-06-29 12:42

Ntwana I understand your anger, lets give him we have already created expectations, dont forget there are three best coaches in the world, Jose, Hiddink n Scolari but they dont come cheap again we dont have QUALITY MATERIAL , they will tell you , you must have minimum of three players played in Champions Lig final

BraBizaa: 2010-06-29 13:18

i have my doubts like anyone else.whether im scared or something.but u Jingles has my support.time will tell if he is the 'rite' choice at the moment i think he is more of an 'obvious' choice.all the best mfethu and remember some of us are tired ukudliwa.at the moment we do have a team of coz nids some renovations here and there.but its all gud if we can try and maintain the current.all the best Pitso.

Congrats Jingles, make us proud Coach....

thabo: 2010-06-29 13:29

Firstly i am not this "white idiot" called thibos. In my history of this name "Thabo" this one is the first idiot i ever came across.

all nations have their corruption somehow and this doesn't mean we should choose a White coach not to be "corrupt"

I am happy that England is out, beaten 4-1 nogan (4-2 adding the disallowed goal LOL). This should now should SA media that English football sucks and they should stop feeding us with this bullsh!t soccer. This is why SA soccer is pathetic. we are trying to emulate the English soccer like "this white Thibos"

Lets learn from big teams like Brazil and Argentina, both coached by the fellow citizen (Dunga and Maradonna) and are now favorites to win 2010. why not try Pitso?

Gavin Hunt is a biggggg Nooooooo for me. He won the league coz big team plays kak. to prove this, SS has never made it very far in the African Champion's League. SAFA must just support and empower Pitso. if it happens that he fails, they should go for another South African coach (coach from the local PSL)

We should stop calling players who plays in England, they are the reason we didn't qualify to the last 16. we were doing well until Mbazo and Co. came.

Thabang: 2010-06-29 14:09

Lets give Pitso the same respect-we gave to Parriera-lets trust in his ability as a coach and be hundred percent behind him. It is time for the real worhk to start now and he should keep the crux of our team together whilst adding a couple of youngsters like Andile Jali and the like. I get jitters when I see how young guns are doing it for Ghana while we still rely on Nomvete,Mokoena Sibaya,etc...Bucaneer by Choice

How can we choose a ball boy to be a coach of a National team, surely there is something wrong with SAFA. A person who couldnt oppose Joel Santana's bad tactics?? Surely we needed Gavin Hunt there, you cant build on something that is rotten. What have we achieved with this World cup as a Teamm, zeech but we singing praises for nothing. Away with failures we dont want continuity of this sickning brazillian style that is taking us anywhere

I was not going to comment here, but hey I felt I should do as a PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN. SAFA I think they've done a good decision so far by ensuring there's continuity in the team. Thumbs Up to Pitso ''JINGLES'' Mosimane for this big step in his career. ALL WE NEED TO DO NOW IS TO GET BEHIND BAFANA BAFANA, like we do during the current world cup & give them the support & dignity they deserve!!!

KidKudu7: 2010-06-29 19:57

We can win the AFCON 2012 if we stick to our high standard of play that we produced against France and Mexico, though I feel 1 or 2 blocks need to be benched or taken out of the team until they recover to their best forms. Phambile nga Bafana Bafana!!

KidKudu7: 2010-06-29 20:08

@ Bongani

Please dont come here with lousy ideas, Pitso is a right choice, period. Whether u like him or not, the man has got valuable experience under the guidance of Parreira, who in a very short period of time managed to turn Bafana Bafana into a formidable & respected team. WAKE UP!!!
