Eriksson in for Nigeria interview

Eriksson in for Nigeria interview

Posted: 2010-02-20 19:15

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson will be the most high profile attendee of Nigeria's coaching interviews set for next week in the country's capital Abuja.

The Swede, whose last international job was with Mexico, was not on the original shortlist announced by Nigeria, but sent in his application to be considered for the job and is now expected to be one of those to interview for the post.

Sources at the NFF informed KickOffNigeria.com that Eriksson's camp have requested for advice on suitable accommodations in Nigeria and will be expected in the country on February 25.

Sources close to the former Lazio coach say he is 'very keen' on taking on the Nigeria position.

Others expected to be in Abuja are former Senegal coach Bruno Metsu, ex Ghana coach Ratomir Djukovic and Lars Lagerback, who resigned from his Sweden position after failing to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

odiichelsea : 2010-02-20 21:17

hahaha, if this one happen eriksson will end up living in calabar. after calabar ladies give am show, he go naturalised in naija and coached the team for free. chinekee, o bu otu ebee ri?

opeoluwa: 2010-02-20 21:33

Now the list is changing from Hiddink, trapatonni, etal to Hoddle, sacchi, ericksson. i wonder why we will ever get it right with those fools at the glass house. two yers of amodu gone down the drain just when a serious country will develop their country within such period of time. They should stop wasting time and install siasa/kalika as eagles coach. he si what we need in our football at least he's better technically, lets forget what happened in egypt.
he's got the eyes to develop players at least we can see today that half of his boys makes up the senior national team even though some useless pple are not happy with that
if our football fails to develop may it never be well with those in charge AMIN o

Fools.....
of course the worst performer in the interviews would always get the job, just like Amodu.
i think they should include Amodu once again in the interview, but undoubtedly these are all gimmicks so that at the end of the day, it would be too late or no longer important to hire a coach, hence amodu returns.
Thats the game folks.

ejay: 2010-02-21 01:54

just look at how organized federations work, the know who they need for the job, they go for him quickly and seal the deal.. but with NFF they are simply confused..

ken gadaffi: 2010-02-21 04:21

What most people fail to realize is that "Sport is movement. It can change quickly and what looks right today, can be different in three weeks. It is interesting because it is not predictable.
AMODU should have been left to complete this WC with a consortium of other coaches such as Siasia, Keshi and Rufai.
After the world cup we can now start all over again. The changes of the crew and team at this late hour will certainly not help us win the world cup but will take us steps back.

If there is one thing I have regretted mostly in my life, is being a Nigerian, a country of many wise men being ruled by fools, maybe this is a course. If Sia(1) will not be given the mandate to take the SE to WC, I will definitely not watch any of Nigerian match at the WC, I know nobody cares if I watch or not but that is the only way I can forget Nigeria and all her misfortunes, is only football that makes me think of Nigeria, may God bless Siasia.

Nwafor justice : 2010-02-21 08:01

The NFF should go for a teacher-coach who can rejuvinate the super eagles.

TT: 2010-02-21 10:20

Thanks Tony and ken gadaffi:

Amodu has done a very good Job but still was sacked, I said it last time that if Jesus come to Nigeria as our team coach he will be sacked, A country of No heros.

Wait and see how our team will be disgraced at the WC and all the enemies of Amodu will be no where to be found.

If we go to WC with 10 oyinbo coach, will be disgraced because we are ungrateful to Amodu and disallowed him to ripe his fruit of labour.

Ride on Amodu and continue laughing and Laughing, later OBJ and Ojukwu will be invited for inteview to be our coach

Erickson is not better than SIASIA... a bit better than Amodu

ojoh: 2010-02-21 12:20

why are they mentioning all the names that failed to take their countries to world cup? well,in as much as we need a couch, what has happened to Siasia???
He is my man any day.Look at what Dunga is doing with Brazil,so why not give Siasia the job and after the world cup, pending on how he faired, they can employ any other person who they think satisfys their miopic minds?
Siasia any day.ERiikson will end up messing us p like he did with England for years without achieving anything.

goodbrains: 2010-02-21 17:15

Aside Erickson, Is it any good coach among these shortlisted names?

Garvey: 2010-02-21 18:46

I dont know why we all come in here and waste our time discussing the issue of new coach for the Eagles. We Nigerians talk too much. Instead of doing something about our situation we continue talking a lot of grammer that will not change anything. Most of the forumites here know who to blame for the downward trend our football is witnessing but we keep discussing Amodu all the time. Amodu is and was never the problem. In fact Amodu performed better than I ever thought. We all knew that Amodu was never the coach NFF should have given that job but they knew why Amodu was appointed even though he did not come first in the interview they conducted. Instead of wasting our time discussing who the right coach for the Eagles should be at this late hour we should be discussing on how to get those corrupt individuals out of the glass house in August. If we can succeed in sourcing for a credible ex-footballer, who is eligible for the election in August and rally round him and make sure he wins the election into the presidency of the NFF in August then our football can witness a revival but if we continue wasting time discussing issues that will not change anything the our football will continue to be managed by the likes of Lulu and his cohorts. My suggestion is to form an alliance on a platform like facebook and discuss the way forward. I am already in contact with some forumites on this. We need to find a way of meeting to discuss. Anybody with good idea on how to reach some of our ex-footballers and is ready to play an important role in the alliance can mail me and we can find a way of meeting online and discuss. My E-mail address is garvey_im@yahoo.de. I will be expecting mails from forumites with good idea.

@ Garvey, I beg no waste your precious time. You would be able to count those who would stand with you till the end on one hand. Nigerians are just noise makers, it is not by accident that Nigeria is the way it is, disorganised, corrupt and backward, gone are the days when we had a vibrant people now everybody is chasing wealth at all cost. Those that govern Nigeria know us very well that is why they can get away with any thing.

Embele: 2010-02-21 21:20

hmmm. Is Eriksson really keen to take a job in a place where his son was nearly killed by fans when he coached there (Kwara United)? Seems the place isnt friendly to the family.

sunny: 2010-02-22 05:38

What is happening to Nigeria, what is happening all football loving Nigerians? what is this whole noise of hiring technical advicer all about? What isSanni Lulu and his cohorts taking us for, are they trying to make us a laughing stock just the way the Federal executive council to u?, they should let us know what they are upto,

Tis all noise they are making just like in the past, will certainly know that in the end, they are going to handle over to us a caricature coach in the name of a white skin as our technical advicer.

Why can't Sani Lulu and his cohort goes out there and pick and contract one of this big coaches they have been making noise all about? Guus Hindinks was one of the coach they started with, making a whole lots of noise, Turkey did not tell the world what their intentions was, all of sudden, he was snatched away from Nigeria, all becos Sanni Lilu is busing thiniking of how much cut will come out for him in the sign on fee if eventually he was contracted.

Now they are a whole lots of world class coaches, including the ones they have told us is on their list, they should please pick one of them and act like people that knows what they are doing. How can a country in this jet age would say that the only FIFA free day b4 the world cup that is meant for all teams in the world to have a friendly match as a way of preparation for the world cup, will be executing a match on that day and cannot tell us that this is the coach that is to handle that match. Its becoming too obvious that these persons in the NFF led by Sanni Lulu are not suppose to be there, they are just people who have no sense of directions, than to always wanno grab every opportunity that comes their way, like hiring Technical advicer for the SE to steal our tax payers money.

Sanni Lulu, we the great passionate football loving Nigerians has expected that by this time, you ought to have thrown in the towel after your lackluster performance in Angola. You seems not to be ashamed of yourself after you told us you will sink and die with Amodu. ITS A BIG SHAME ON OUR SIDE,

Well, we advice that you and your cohorts in the NFF should think of what good you can do for Nigeria football, atleast for once after being there for long stealing our money. Just do one good by hiring for us a good technical advicer with the pedigree to see our boys have a good outing in the World in South Africa.

ITS AN ADVICE.

Oke Sunny AKA Don.

Frank: 2010-02-22 11:08

@Mike: Let me agree with u for once! Ur response to Garvey's invite is, to say the least, spot on.

Garvey, Good talk you have here, let somebody be an administrator on Facebook so that we can disseminate this unholy and wicked attitude coming out from NFF house of commotion. These guys are causing more high blood pressure to Nigerians. I will add you on yahoo so that we think aloud with other fans that I have their contacts. We need action and the time is now!
Tony and ken gadaffi, I am disappointed in you gentlemen. I have been following this forum for the past one year on daily basis before registering last week. I love the way you guys ****yze football but my disappointment is in the way you people are behaving like Andoaaka to FG when it concerns Amodu. We should face the facts, with or without Amodu we would have qualified for SA 2010. Amodu is not humble, he does not have good human relation and he lacks the technically competence to manage SE. Lets remove sentiments. We need a more competent manager/coach who will be a man.

michael: 2010-02-22 13:18
