“Milan announces to have signed on a permanent deal from FC Porto the player André Silva, who has signed a contract until 30 June 2022,” a statement released by the club read.
Silva, 21, completed his medicals with the Rossoneri on Monday and joins after two years in the Porto first team squad, having joined the club’s academy in 2011.
The forward, who scored 21 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions and has seven goals in eight games for Portugal, says he is thrilled to join the Italian side.
“I was pleasantly surprised by this opportunity,” he told reporters. “I’m very happy to be at Milan, the sensations are beautiful. I know the history and greatness of this club.”
Touted as the successor to Cristiano Ronaldo in the national team, Silva insists he will not count his chickens before they hatch.
“Am I the heir to Cristiano Ronaldo? I’m calm, I have a lot to work to do before certain thoughts can be expressed,” he said.
Silva is already the fourth new recruit brought in by Milan since their Chinese take-over, with Villareal centre-back Mateo Musacchio, Ivorian national midfielder Franck Kessie and Wolfsburg full-back Ricardo Rodriguez all brought in to help the club reach its former glory next season.
