Jose Mourinho's massive Tottenham Hotspur payout revealed

Jose Mourinho is reportedly set to earn a massive payout after being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur.

Mourinho's 17-month-spell as Spurs' manager came to an abrupt end on Monday after he was relieved of his duties by chairman Daniel Levy, just days before the club was set to do battle against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.

Tottenham's decision to part ways with the 58-year-old will come at a cost as the Portuguese tactician is set to earn around £16 million (R318 million) in severance pay, which is what he would have earned had he seen out his contract in North London, according to the Independent.

A separate report from the Mirror reveals that Mourinho has now received more than £50 million (R995 million) in pay-offs from his former clubs in England, having previously been sacked twice by Chelsea and once by Manchester United.

In the case of the former, the Blues had to pay the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss a combined £31.37 million (R624 million) across his two dismissals, while the Red Devils forked out £19.6 million (R390 million) after showing him the door in 2018.

Mourinho, who was then appointed as the replacement to Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019, departs with Spurs languishing in seventh place in the league standings, five points adrift of a qualification spot for next season's UEFA Champions League campaign.

Former Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason has been placed in charge of first-team duties for the time being, although RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann is widely expected to be appointed as Mourinho's long-term successor.
