Oluwafemi – who has spent over a decade in South Africa – was for the past two years playing in Zambia for ZESCO United, representing them in the CAF Champions League last year.
With Highlands struggling for consistency at the back coach Gordon Igesund has found reason to assess the 29-year-old.
Oluwafemi has so far been looking solid at training and it is now up to Highlands to make a decision on whether to offer him a contract, having also featured in a friendly against Jomo Cosmos following the team’s return from their mid-season camp in Cape Town.
Oluwafemi played for Cosmos juniors before moving on to University of Pretoria, back at Cosmos again where he made his PSL debut during the 2009-10 season, Maritzburg United, Platinum Stars, Bidvest Wits and Tuks yet again from where he moved to ZESCO.
Meanwhile, Highlands are also looking at Malawian defender Miracle Gabeya.
Gabeya was recently training with Kaizer Chiefs who have since turned down the opportunity to sign him, with Lorenzo Gordinho staying on at the club after nothing happened with his trials in Europe.
The 20-year-old is already a regular in the Malawian national team.
Highlands have in recent weeks turned down the opportunity to sign Reuben Thebakang, Aidan Jenniker and players from Gabon and Benin.
