Percy Tau managed just 45 minutes of playing time on Sunday evening after he was substituted off at the start of the second half during Al Ahly's 2-2 Cairo Derby draw against rivals Zamalek on Sunday.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns star was making his first appearance for the club since the departure of Pitso Mosimane and missed last week's encounter against Eastern Company after a delayed return from international duty with South Africa.
Following the match, interim coach Samy Komsan revealed that the fatigue from travelling with the national team had ultimately been the reason behind Tau's premature withdrawal from Sunday's match.
"We started well and showed the desire to win," Komsan said at the press conference, per KingFut. "We had many chances to extend our lead early in the game.
"The match came at a time where we have injured players in [Aliou] Dieng and Ayman Ashraf, as well as players returning from international duty and others suffering from fatigue.
"That's why we had to replace Tau with Hussein El-Shahat because he was tired. Ali Maaloul and Hamdy Fathi are also suffering from muscle strain."
Tau has scored eight goals in 27 appearances since joining Al Ahly from Premier League side Brighton Hove Albion at the start of the season, chipping in with a further six assists along the way.
