Signed against a tide of pessimism two years, Shalulile has moved to become the fasted player to reach a half-century of goals for the club overtaking retired Nigerian forward Raphael Chukwu.
Chukwu only reached 50 goals into his second spell at the club and after three and a half years (84 games) but Shalulile did it within two years (80 games).
The Namibian now has 52 goals and 16 assists for The Brazilians which has prompted the club to offer him a new deal.
"I was always of the opinion that even though a player is in a contract if the said player over performs or surpasses expectations from when he was initially signed which was the case with Peter, then he deserves a new one," says Shalulile's former coach Ricardo Mannetti.
Mannetti coached Shalulile in the Namibia national team and last month voiced his opinion about that based on performance the 28-year-old must be the highest paid player in the league.
Sundowns reacted by offering Shalulile a new and improved five-year deal which has now brought him closer to the circle of top earners in the league.
"They signed him not knowing what he was going to achieve and not knowing if he would break records.
"They signed him based on the potential and when he has overachieved and broken records then it would also make sense to revisit the contract.
"Sundowns will get the kudos from my side because they tapped into it and realised that Shalulile needs to have a market-related compensation for a player of his calibre not only in South Africa but in Africa as well.
"That is commendable.
"A lot of people would have thought he was not supposed to renew the contract but I'm of the opinion that Sundowns showed faith in him in the first place.
"Secondly, they came through by offering him a better contract and better conditions so whoever is out there whether it is a European club or a club from the Middle East or North Africa interested in the best striker in Africa then they should put the money down and speak to Sundowns.
"That should be the next step. They have to come through with X amount and if that is what Sundowns is looking for, in that case, I don't think Sundowns would stand in his way if that were to happen.
"I think things become complicated when it is only talking and people say he should be in Europe or where but then the European clubs should show it if they value him by coming to pay the top dollar that Sundowns expect.
"Commendable what Sundowns have done by showing appreciation and most important Shlaulile can keep his focus on the pitch which is what all players want.
"Players don't want contractual complications around them, and he now feels appreciated and that is what matters. It is a win-win situation for both," says Mannetti.
