Lyle Foster earns nomination for prestigious European Golden Boy

Former Orlando Pirates striker Lyle Foster has been named amongst some of the world's brightest stars on the list of nominees for the prestigious European Golden Boy award.

Foster is currently on the books of Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco but spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Belgian Pro League side Cercle Brugge.

After becoming Pirates' youngest PSL debutant back in 2017, the South Africa junior international completed a switch to Monaco in January last year.

Foster went on to make his Ligue 1 debut at 18 on the opening day of the current season but was loaned out to Cercle a few weeks later in the transfer window.

Though having registered just one goal and one assist in Belgium, burly forward's potential has managed to catch the attention of Italian football publication Tuttosport and its partnering journalists for the Top 100 candidates for the 2020 Golden Boy award.

The annual gong is given to the best player under the age of 21 from across Europe's top divisions, as voted for by journalists from various top football publications on the continent, and was last won by Portuguese star João Felix, who is on the books of Atletico Madrid.

Foster, 19, is up against the likes of Barcelona's Ansu Fatu, Real Madrid duo Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo, Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies, Borussia Dortmund duo Erling Haaland and Jaden Sancho as well as Ajax Cape Town youth graduate Lassina Traoré, who is now with AFC Ajax.
