Cup Hangover: Magesi fall to Chippa

Chippa United jumped to third-place on the Betway Premiership with a 2-0 win over Carling Knockout champions Magesi FC on Saturday evening.

Veteran Andile Jali, Sephelo Baloni and Seun Ndlovu picked out the starting line-up presented by the Chilli Boys, with man of the moment Elvis Chipezeze in goal for the visitors.

Chippa were on the front-foot on seven minutes and grabbed the lead courtesy of a well-taken strike by Sinoxolo Kwayiba and directed the counterparts on the back-foot.

Jali looked to pile more woes on the visitors shortly thereafter with a trademark strike from a distance, but he didn't manage to trouble Chipezeze.

At the same time, Kwayiba went in search of a second goal from a combination with Bienvenu Eva Nga around the six-yard area but he was well guarded.

Kwayiba did extend the lead to complete his brace five minutes ahead of the break through a telling strike from a combination of poor defending by the newly-crowned Carling Knockout champions.

Magesi got a chance to get back in the game just after halftime with a penalty following a foul by Craig Martin in the box, but Stanley Nwabali denied Edmore Chirambadare.

The opportunities didn't stop coming though as Tlou Masegela steered a perfectly placed delivery from Godfrey Mashigo well off the mark.

Chippa coach Kwanele Kopo pulled on a double substitution later on with Boy Madingwane on for Jali before Nga had to sacrifice duty for Elmo Kambindu.

However, the changes didn't affect the score-line in any shape or form leaving the Chilli Boys to a comprehensive victory and third spot.
