'Pirates have done better than Chiefs in the transfer market'

Kaizer Chiefs legend Patrick Mayo has praised their arch-rivals, Orlando Pirates, for having a successful transfer window so far.

The Buccaneers have made significant moves in this season's transfer window, acquiring top performers from the 2023/2024 season, while Amakhosi have opted for largely unknown talent.

Despite finishing second in the Betway Premiership log table last season, the ambitious Pirates recognized the need to strengthen their squad by bringing in Bafana Bafana-caliber players such as midfielder Kamogelo Sebelebele, Tshepang Moremi, Oswin Appollis, Sihle Nduli, Sipho Mbule, Yanela Mbuthuma, Masindi Nemtajela, Nkosikhona Ndaba, Tshepo Mashiloane, and Sinoxolo Kwayiba.

On the other hand, Chiefs have added players like Paseka Mako, Thabiso Monyane, Nkanyiso Shinga, Ethan Chislett, Siphosihle Ndlovu, and Flavio Silva to their roster.

"I must admit, there has been improvement in Chiefs' game; their pre-season matches in the Netherlands give me hope," says Mayo.

"I'm positive they will perform better than they did last season. However, to be honest, their squad still lacks depth in all departments.

"They need to find a goalkeeper. In defense, players like Inacio and Kwinika haven't been performing well. I’m not sure why Kwinika’s contract was extended, as he and Given Msimango have not yet delivered their best performances. They need a center-back who can effectively marshal the defence.

"In midfield, they need someone who can fulfill the Nengomasha role—the one who does the crucial work for the team. Upfront, they still lack a player who can emulate Collins Mbesuma," he added.

"Overall, Pirates are having the best transfer window compared to Chiefs. Pirates are making serious signings and demonstrating their intentions for the upcoming season. They want to compete with Sundowns this year.

"I don't understand why Chiefs can't do the same since they have the financial means. It's puzzling as to why they are not signing more players."
