Thembinkosi Lorch welcomes first Orlando Pirates trophy after difficult 2020

Lorch scored the winning goal as Pirates pulled off a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic to clinch the MTN8 title at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The 27-year-old endured a turbulent 18 months since being crowned the 2018/19 PSL Footballer of the Season, having struggled to replicate his form on the pitch last season.

He also faced off-the-pitch troubles that saw him kicked out of the club's bio-bubble camp in August, before being arrested in September over allegations of domestic violence.

However, after missing out his team's last four matches through a knee injury, 'Nyoso' proved the hero after coming off the bench to lead the Buccaneers to their first trophy in over six long years.

"I'm very, very happy. It's my first trophy. Ja, it's been a difficult year for me, and firstly I would like to thank my family for supporting me throughout the difficulties," said Lorch after the match.

"Winning trophies is something I've been wanting to do, especially for Orlando Pirates. And I'm happy to be a champions today."
