Sundowns are set to do battle against the Amakhosi in this weekend's MTN 8 quarter-finals, ahead of which Baxter admitted on Wednesday that his long-term goal was to usurp the reigning league champions as South African football's dominant force.
Speaking to the media ahead of the encounter, Mnqithi acknowledged his counterpart's ambitions and predicted that the former Bafana Bafana coach could make a tactical switch in an attempt to win Sunday's crunch clash.
"Based on what he said in the media, he is also coming out guns blazing," Mngqithi said. "They want to reassume their status of being a big team in the country because their transitional game and counter-attacking means you will not make many initiatives to take the game for yourself.
"We know for a fact that Baxter is very good in transition in my mind, I am already thinking about players like [Kgaogelo] Sekgota and Keagan Dolly, but there's a very big contrast regards to [Samir] Nurkovic who very much is a box striker.
"So, if they want to play a counter-attacking game he will need to start on the halfway line which I don't think is his strength. That will be a bit of a compromise, so that's why I think they may want to come out and play in and around our box, which will make it a very interesting contest.
"Stuart is a very good coach, I've got a lot of respect for him. It's going to be interesting how he approaches the game."
