Chiefs to revisit backfiring striker acquisition

Kaizer Chiefs will be forced to relook the case of Efmamjjasond Gonzalez in the next transfer with the Colombian having failed dismally to live up to the expectations at the club.

Gonzalez was brought primarily as replacement for Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana but has done nothing to justify that is better than the Burundian who was offloaded despite scoring eight goals in 21 appearances in his first season.

Towering just like Bimenyimana, Gonzalez has struggled to cope with the demands whenever fielded and already has red lights flashing on his face at Naturena.

While fellow South American Edson Castillo has proven his worth to levels of being ranked as the best player at Chiefs this season, the Colombian has looked a misfit option that has backfired.

The 24-year-old is without a goal in six appearances totalling 230 minutes at Chiefs.

So bad has been Gonzalez's situation that not only has he looked off the mark, but he has also found his fortunes sinking in recent times and has only played five minutes in the last five league games.

Though what he has shown on match day has only given hints of what he is all about he is not the solution to the scoring crisis that have befallen Chiefs.

Gonzalez has looked clumsy with his touch, thin on being clinical, and out of pace with how AmaKhosi play.

Jasond Gonzalez has had a frustrating start to his

Since he didn't score in his last nine games at Bolivian club Real Santa Cruz plus six at Chiefs it means he hasn't been on target in 15 appearances which has affected his confidence.

That confidence factor has been worsened by that Chiefs is struggling and he is an environment where he is not familiar with the language of instruction as he is still struggling with English.

Whispers are suggesting a return to Santa Cruz as it is said there is that option in the agreement that was signed upon the move to Chiefs.

No clarity was ever given about whether Gonzalez came on loan or was bought outright.

The eight goals that Gonzalez scored for Santa Cruz have kept him top of the scoring charts at the club up to now, which explains why returning to Bolivia will make sense.

There is also consideration of shipping him out to Europe where his name has been thrown to clubs in Serbia and Romania.

On the other end, Chiefs are said to be already considering several free agents foreign strikers options that have been proposed to them for the January window.

Having already registered five foreign players this season, Chiefs will need to open up space by releasing one in the next window to be able to bring in another non-South African option upfront.
