Nabi gets fourth chance at Chiefs

Nasreddine Nabi has the latest chance to aim for the balance of his preference through the see-saw ride that has been the definition of his tenure as Kaizer Chiefs head coach.

For all the piles of work that Nabi is putting in behind the walls at the Chiefs Village through what he is referring to as a rebuilding project, results matter and always stand as a point of judgement.

Nabi hasn't been able to win three in a row at Chiefs despite having won a dozen in all competitions to date.

As it stands and after the recent victories against Magesi FC and Stellenbosch FC, Amakhosi have now been able to win two games in a row for the fourth time since Nabi took over.

On the three previous occasions, they couldn't get the third consecutive win on the board, suffering defeats against Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and SuperSport United through all those junctures.

Nabi now needs the win against Cape Town City to wipe off some of the inconsistency prints on the board since he took over.

The value of those three points on Wednesday is that they will keep Chiefs right in the mix of the cluster of clubs chasing third place, which comes with a CAF Confederation Cup ticket for next season.

Third-placed Stellenbosch have 31 points, while Amakhosi are three points behind despite sitting in eighth position.

"I want the same spirit from the last game in the next game against Cape Town City because they are a good team, and Muhsin Ertugral beat me last time.

"Kaizer Chiefs needs the points," said Nabi ahead of the game.

The other significance of City's visit is that they are lining up as the third club with a chance of completing a double over the Soweto giants.

Chiefs have already surrendered 12 points to Sundowns and SuperSport for the first time through the PSL era years after suffering defeat in both home and away matches against the two Tshwane clubs.

Ertugral famously overcame the men in Gold and Black 1-0 in his first game in charge of City at the beginning of the year as he returned to club football after five years away.

Wednesday's match between Chiefs and City is at FNB Stadium (19:30).
