'We lost our DNA because of Ronaldo'

World News

Cristiano Ronaldo has once again been on the receiving end of criticism for his stint with Juventus, this time from one of Italy's most popular footballing legends.

Veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has seemingly blamed Ronaldo, at least in part, for Juve's struggles since the Portugal captain's arrival at the Bianconeri.

This not the first time the ex-Real Madrid talisman has come under fire from a former teammate at the Italian club after leaving and joining Manchester United in August.

Captain Leonardo Bonucci and his centre-back partner Giorgio Chiellini have previously shared some disparaging remarks about the Portuguese superstar, with the latter claiming that he wished Ronaldo had left sooner than his 28 August departure.

Buffon, who played with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner for two seasons in Turin, has now seemingly echoed those sentiments.

"Juventus had the chance to win the Champions League the first year he arrived, which was the year I was at Paris Saint-Germain, and I couldn't figure out what happened," he told TUDN.com about Juve's exit from the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League, when they were knocked out by Ajax Amsterdam in the quarter-finals.

"When I returned, I worked with Ronaldo for two years and we did well together, but I think Juventus lost that DNA of being a team.

"We reached the Champions League final in 2017 because we were a side full of experience, but above all we were a single unit and there was this competition for places within the group that was very strong.

"We lost that with Ronaldo."
