The German is the World Cup's all-time leading scorer with 16 goals, a milestone he reached at the 2014 showpiece in Brazil when Die Mannschaft were crowned world champions. He also has a further three goals at the European Championship, taking his overall tally in international competitions to 19 strikes.
Cameroon icon Samuel Eto'o, meanwhile, is not only the player with the most goals in Africa Cup of Nations history (18), but he is also the continent's most decorated player of all time with four African Player of the Year awards and two AFCON titles to his name.
In addition to that, he has finished as the top scorer of the continental competition on two occasions, and also scored three times at the World Cup.
According to Transfermarkt, former Argentina striker Gabriel Batistuta scored 13 goals in 16 Copa America appearances, and finished as the top scorer in two editions of the tournament, in 1990/91 and 1994/95.
