After Cristiano Ronaldo won the Golden Boot at Euro 2020, here are the 10 all-time leading goalscorers in international competitions, including the Portugal star.

While some stars are well-known for both their club and national team exploits, Miroslav Klose is one of those footballers who has a far superior reputation for his country. 

So much so that he is one of the leading goalscorers in international competitions comprising the FIFA World Cup and the top continental tournament a player can represent his country in.

The German is the World Cup's all-time leading scorer with 16 goals, a milestone he reached at the 2014 showpiece in Brazil when Die Mannschaft were crowned world champions. He also has a further three goals at the European Championship, taking his overall tally in international competitions to 19 strikes.

Cameroon icon Samuel Eto'o, meanwhile, is not only the player with the most goals in Africa Cup of Nations history (18), but he is also the continent's most decorated player of all time with four African Player of the Year awards and two AFCON titles to his name.

In addition to that, he has finished as the top scorer of the continental competition on two occasions, and also scored three times at the World Cup. 

According to Transfermarkt, former Argentina striker Gabriel Batistuta scored 13 goals in 16 Copa America appearances, and finished as the top scorer in two editions of the tournament, in 1990/91 and 1994/95. 

The retired centre-forward represented the Albiceleste at three World Cups and scored 10 goals, making him the highest-scoring Argentine of all time at the tournament. 

Pele is considered by many to be the greatest footballer of all time, so it comes as no surprise that his name features amongst the highest-scoring players at international tournaments. The Brazilian great has 12 goals in World Cup competition and eight in the Copa America.

Portugal talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, has a combined tally of 21 goals across the World Cup (seven strikes) and the UEFA European Championship (14).  

His Brazilian namesake Ronaldo Nazario holds the record for the most goals at international tournaments, though, with a combined total of 25 goals.

The former Selecao striker, who is one of football's most respected names for his contributions at both club and national team level, scored 15 goals at various World Cups, as well as 10 in the Copa America.
