Eto'o makes big Cameroon move

World News

Cameroon and FC Barcelona legend Samuel Eto'o has taken a huge step in pursuit of his next big move in the football world.

On Wednesday, the 40-year-old officially filed his candidacy for the presidency of Cameroon Football Federation after revealing in September that he would be in the running for the role, saying it was "time to rebuild our football".

According to Channels Television, a crowd of supporters accompanied the retired footballer on his way to submit his bid at the Cameroonian federation headquarters in Yaounde.

In January this year, the Court of Arbitration for Sport reportedly invalidated the 2018 elections that Seidou Mbombo Njoya had won, and Eto'o has seemingly taken this as an opportunity to launch his own campaign for the presidency.

The ex-Inter Milan striker has previously described Njoya as having "failed miserably" in his running of the federation, and sent a strong message to his opposition on Wednesday.

"I urge the opposite camp to be careful because we have accepted lots of things," Eto'o told reporters, per Channels Television.

"I will be the next president of the federation despite all the cheating."

He also revealed that the current leadership had offered him the position of vice-president but he rejected the opportunity.

The next elections are scheduled for December, just a month before Cameroon host the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.
