PSG to hijack Barcelona deal?

World News

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly on the brink of hijacking FC Barcelona's deal for Georginio Wijnaldum.

Netherlands star Wijnaldum, 30, is out of contract with club side Liverpool at the end of the month, and has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona.

The Catalan giants, who have already signed Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia on free transfers, were previously said to be closing in on a deal for the former PSV Eindhoven midfielder, but now appear to have fallen behind PSG in the race for his signature.

That is according to renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who claimed that Wijnaldum is close to joining the Parisians after the Ligue 1 giants offered him an improved deal.

"Georginio Wijnaldum has decided to join Paris Saint-Germain," Romano reported on Twitter. "Barcelona have NO intention to raise their bid after they agreement ready by 2 weeks and medicals planned. Gini is now set to accept PSG proposal until 2024 with salary more than doubled.

"PSG offered Wijnaldum more than a doubled salary and Gini accepted during the night. [PSG boss Mauricio] Pochettino called him many times in the last 56 hours. PSG now working on next steps – medicals in the Netherlands too.

"PSG want Gini to sign the contract as soon as possible after his Barca-deal turnaround."

Wijnaldum had been a mainstay in Liverpool's team over the past five seasons and played a starring role in the club's recent Premier League, UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup triumphs.
