PSG star: Messi is just like Ronaldo

World News

A Paris Saint-Germain star has claimed that teammate Lionel Messi is just like his famous arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of what makes the two superstars so special.

Considered to be among the greatest players of all time, Messi and Ronaldo's rivalry dates all the way back to the late 2000s. Although both are now in the twilight of their careers, the pair are still competing with two of Europe's biggest clubs, PSG and Manchester United.

Here are the 10 players who have won the most Ballon d'Or awards:

Coincidentally, both forwards joined new teams in the 2021/22 campaign, with the Argentine making a shock exit from FC Barcelona before joining Les Parisiens in August 2021, while the Portugal striker completed a reunion with the Red Devils 12 years after leaving the side for Real Madrid in 2009.

Both transfers were seen as significant events in the sport, although they would go on to have rather disappointing seasons – Messi record his lowest goals tally since the 2005/06 campaign, while Ronaldo, despite being the standout player for his side last season, is set to miss out on UEFA Champions League football for the first time in 20 years if he stays at Old Trafford for the 2022/23 campaign.

Nevertheless, PSG and Spain midfielder Ander Herrera believes both players still have a lot to offer, and that they are similar in one particular regard.

"With Leo, you can't say that [he will not be able to score 50 goals in a season again]," Herrera told Diario AS.

"He is like Cristiano, they never lower the piston.

"Cristiano returns to Manchester and has a great season.

"As far as the judgments that Leo has to accept another situation [join another team], I'm not so daring…"
