"ACF Fiorentina is delighted to announce the signing of Lucas Torreira on loan with an option to purchase from Arsenal Football Club," a statement on the Serie A club's website read.

"The Uruguay international – born in Fray Bentos on 11 February 1996 – spent last season at Atletico Madrid, helping the club win La Liga.

"Torreira has 31 Uruguay caps to his name and recently played for his country in the Copa America.

"The midfielder will wear the No.18 shirt at Fiorentina."

The 25-year-old is said to have arrived in Italy on Tuesday for a medical, and it is understood that the former Sampdoria star was keen on a return to Serie A, despite interest from Eintracht Frankfurt who had also made an offer for the player, per Sky Sports.

Torreira has made 89 appearances for the London side since joining in 2018, winning the FA Cup and the Community Shield along the way.
