Man City chasing surprise African star?

World News

Manchester City have reportedly set their sights on a surprise move for an African star plying his trade in Spain.

According to Spanish daily Diario AS, the Citizens are targeting 24-year-old Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq, who was relegated to Spain's second division with Almeria at the end of the previous campaign.

With City believed to be in the race to sign the centre-forward, he has reportedly already received firm offers from Spartak Moscow and Eintracht Frankfurt, while LaLiga clubs Sevilla and Villarreal are also understood to be interested.

After failing to impress at previous clubs such as Roma and Scottish champions Rangers, the striker netted 20 goals and assisted a further seven strikes for Almeria in LaLiga2 last season.

The 2020/21 Premier League champions are said to be ready to sign the player before the start of the 2021/22 campaign, and will immediately loan him out to newly promoted Ligue 1 side Troyes, according to reports.

The French club is part of the City Football Group that was founded by Citizens owner Sheikh Mansour, and it is believed the transfer will be facilitated by the organisation.

According to AS, however, Sadiq has a release clause of €60 million (R1 billion) in his contract with Almeria, with that deal set to expire in June 2025 only.
