A former FC Barcelona forward has claimed that Lionel Messi might return to the Spanish club "sooner than expected" amid his struggles at Paris Saint-Germain.
In August 2021, Barca president Joan Laporta announced that the club would not renew Messi's contract after it had expired at the end of the 2020/21 season because they could not afford to do so.
The Argentine's departure from the Camp Nou sent shockwaves around the world as the attacker had left the club he had spent his entire career with up until that point, with much success.

French giants PSG were quick to pounce as they sensationally snapped up the 34-year-old on a big-money two-year contract.
However, Messi has not quite managed to live up to the heights expected of him in France, and he has faced a considerable amount of criticism in his short time with Les Parisiens.
With speculation about the Argentina captain's future starting to abound, ex-Barcelona winger Lobo Carrasco believes the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner could call time on his PSG stay in favour of a return to the Catalan giants.
"I see important clues regarding Messi's return to Barca. And it may be sooner than expected," he told El Chiringuito TV.
"If the results do not follow, especially in the Champions League, he could demand his departure.
"The situation is difficult, but his return [to Barcelona] is possible.
"Messi is not happy in Paris. Not as much as in Barcelona anyway. If he sent a burofax to Barca, which is the team of his life, imagine what he can do at PSG if the club doesn't win?"
