Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has revealed his, perhaps surprising, thoughts on potentially winning this year Ballon d'Or award amid reports that he is one of the favourites for it.
The Paris Saint-Germain attacker had a strong finish to his Barcelona career earlier this year, helping the struggling club lift the Copa del Rey before he made the switch to France, and then followed that up with victory at the 2021 Copa America with his national team.

Now one of the favourites for this year's Golden Ball as a result, Messi has claimed that winning it a seventh time would be "crazy", but admitted that he does not think he will walk away with the accolade on this occasion.
"If I'm honest, I don't think so," he told SPORT.
"My biggest prize was what I was able to achieve with the national team. After having fought and fought so much for that achievement, it was the best for all it cost.
"If the Golden Ball arrives, it would be extraordinary for what it would mean winning one more. The seventh would be crazy.
"If not, nothing happens. I have already achieved one of my great goals. I am very happy for what happened and now that whatever has to happen happens."
It was reported by Marca last week that a list of the final votes for the famous prize had been leaked, and it suggested that Messi will finish second behind Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski.
