Lionel Messi in bomb scare

World News

Just days after winning the 2021 Copa America, Lionel Messi was reportedly caught up in a bomb scare in Argentina.

According to The Sun, just hours before Messi's private jet was set to depart for Spain on Tuesday after some days of rest and celebration in his homeland, his flight was delayed following a reported bomb threat at Rosario airport.

It is reported that a man at the airport had claimed he had a bomb in his suitcase. The situation immediately prompted security officials to enforce emergency safety and preventative protocols, with the airport being evacuated and all flights suspended.

"At 11:50am, the airport security police (PSA) activated the preventive emergency plan due to a situation of suspicion," a statement from the airport read, according to the Daily Mirror.

"The building was evacuated as a precaution."

Further reports suggest that the matter was resolved in under an hour, although the incident caused a serious backlog of flights.

Meanwhile, Messi has reportedly agreed a new contract with Barca, which will see him stay at this boyhood club for another five years.
