Philippe Coutinho joined Aston Villa on a six-month loan with an option to buy after a difficult tenure at the Camp Nou.

The Villans are set to pay a portion of the 29-year-old's wages and the purchase option is believed to be between €35 million (R619 million) and €45 million (R795 million), according to Italian journalist Matteo Moretto.  

Elsewhere, Kieran Trippier joined the Tyneside club from Atletico Madrid in a deal reportedly worth £12 million (R254 million) plus add-ons. The fullback has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the option of a further year.  

In Italy, Jose Mourinho secured the signature of Ainsley Maitland-Niles on a loan deal until the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

Football Italia claims that Roma will pay up to €1 million (R17 million) for the player’s temporary move to the Stadio Olimpico with €500 000 (R8 million) guaranteed to Arsenal and €500 000 (R8 million) in add-ons.
