Mbappe: I was in talks with a third club

World News

Having signed a bumper new deal with Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappe has now revealed he held talks with one of the Premier League's biggest clubs before signing his new contract.

Mbappe's future was the subject of immense speculation over the course of the season, but all the rumours were finally put to bed last Saturday when it was confirmed that PSG had tied him down to a new contract until 2025.

Real Madrid were believed to be the only club seriously in contention to sign the forward, but the France forward has now revealed he was also in contact with 2021/22 UEFA Champions League finalists Liverpool before agreeing to extend his stay in Paris.

Shedding light on how a move to Anfield was considered, both in the past few months and in 2017, Mbappe told The Telegraph: "We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit.

"I talked to Liverpool because it's the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool.

"I don't know why, you will have to ask her!

"It's a good club, and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco, I met them. It's a big club."

While the Reds will not be too disappointed about him not joining the club, Real were left devastated by the 23-year-old's decision, while LaLiga threatened to launch a series of lawsuits against PSG for extending the player's deal, per Get French Football News.

Mbappe, though, has refused to rule out joining Los Blancos in the future.

"Never over, never over," he told the BBC when asked if his dream of playing for Real had ended as a result of his decision to stay on in Paris.

"The only thing is that now I have signed a contract for three years more. You never know what can happen in the future.

"I give up to think about the future, I only think about the present and the present is I signed a new contract for three years more at Paris Saint-Germain."
