Lampard: Ronaldo is ahead of Messi now

World News

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo is better than Lionel Messi now, and revealed why.

The big debate regarding who is better between Ronaldo and Messi continues to be a topical subject in many quarters, and Blues' legend Lampard is now seemingly of the view that Ronaldo is ahead of Messi, although he has not always believed that.

The two superstars are arguably the greatest players of their generation, having shared a record 11 Ballon d'Or awards between them and with both attackers amassing more than 500 goals in their illustrious careers.

Comparisons between the pair is a debate that will not rest, even though the duo are now in the twilight of their careers and have joined new clubs this season, with the Portuguese international returning to Manchester United and the Argentina talisman signing for Paris Saint-Germain.

In an interview with Gary Neville on the Sky Sports show The Overlap, Lampard revealed why he has backtracked on his previous view on the debate.

"You know what, I've always been a Messi man and then I watched your debate with Carra [Jamie Carragher] recently actually and I actually think for Ronaldo's output and actual numbers in big finals and semi-finals like we've seen, I think I maybe give him the edge now," the 43-year-old explained.

This season, Ronaldo has already scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 14 appearances for United, while Messi has scored four times and assisted two strikes in his 10 matches played so far in all competitions for PSG.
