It is claimed the American and his partners will buy the club for £4.25 billion (R69 billion), a huge figure but one that should not be a problem for the group, who are jointly worth £10.86 billion (R176 billion), according to Marca.
That figure makes them the sixth wealthiest club owners in the game, but who else are among the richest?
Arsenal's Stan Kroenke, who owns the club through his company Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, is reportedly worth £6.8 billion (R136 billion). Despite his high net worth, though, Gunners fans have made multiple protests against the American for what has been perceived as a lack of investment in the club.
In Italy, Inter Milan are owned by Zhang Jindong, who took over the Serie A giants in 2016 when his firm, Suning Holdings, bought a 70% stake in the team for $300 million (R4.8 billion).
In his reign to date, the Nerazzurri ended their 11-year league title drought in the 2020/21 campaign, while they are currently second behind AC Milan in this season's race for the Scudetto. Despite this, though, supporters of the team remain unhappy with the team's leadership under Jindong, who said to be worth £6.2 billion (R124 billion).
Perhaps surprisingly, an Major League Soccer team owner is also on the list, with LA Galaxy boss Philip Anschutz believed to be worth £8.1 billion (R162 billion). He bought the club for a reported $26 million (R422 million) in 1998, and caused major headlines when he saw his club sign David Beckham from Real Madrid in 2007.
