Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly have learned their fate for the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup, but how have the Egyptian giants fared in previous editions of the competition?
On Tuesday evening, Al Ahly were drawn alongside Al Duhail in the second round (previously quarter-final) of FIFA's premier club competition, with the Qatari hosts being afforded a bye from the first round after New Zealanders Auckland City withdrew last week.

Should Mosimane's side emerge triumphant from their clash against the reigning Qatari Stars League champions, they will face European giants Bayern Munich in the semi-finals and have a shot at reaching the final of the competition for the first time in the club's history.
With the prospect of immortality on the horizon for the Club of the Century and their South Africa coach, here is a look at how the side has fared on the world stage since making their debut in the competition more than a decade ago.
2005: Debut appearance in the competition
The Egyptian giants made their first appearance in the Club World Cup in 2005, in what was then only the second edition of the revamped competition, but suffered an early exit at the hands of Al-Ittihad. Manuel Jose's side suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Saudi Arabian outfit in the quarter-finals, before losing 2-1 to Sydney FC in the fifth-place play-off.
2006: Best finish and Aboutrika Golden Boot
Having learned from the mistakes of the previous year, Ahly returned to the competition in 2006 and stormed to a third-place finish. Inspired by tournament top scorer Mohamed Aboutrika, the Club of the Century defeated Auckland City to progress to the semi-finals, where they were beaten by eventual champions Internacional, before trouncing Club America 2-1 in the third-place play-off to take home the bronze medal.
2008: Agonising early exit
The 2008 edition saw the CAF representatives suffer a quarter-final defeat to Mexican side Pachuca after suffering an agonising 4-2 defeat after extra time. The disappointment of another early exit from the competition was compounded five days later when Jose's outfit went down 1-0 to Adelaide United in the fifth-place play-off.
2012: Fourth-placed finish
Having been made to wait four years to feature in the competition again, Al Ahly returned in 2012 under Hossam El-Badry with a point to prove and opened their account with a 2-1 win over Japan's Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the quarter-finals. However, the club narrowly missed out on a spot in the final after losing to eventual champions Corinthians, while they also suffered defeat to Monterrey in the third-place play-off.
2013: A humbling exit from the competition
In the club's most recent outing at the Club World Cup, Al Ahly were handed a humiliating 5-1 defeat by old enemies Monterrey in the fifth-place play-off, with that loss coming after the club were eliminated 2-0 by Chinese giants Guangzhou Evergrande in the quarter-finals of the competition.
