Barca star 'chooses' Africa over Spain

FC Barcelona star Ilaix Moriba has reportedly taken the decision to represent his African country of birth despite being eligible to play for Spain. 

The La Masia graduate has been a polarising figure in the Barca set-up in recent weeks as he has been involved in a reported contractual stand-off with the LaLiga giants.

However, while his club future remains unclear, the youngster has now reportedly shown clear intentions to represent his country of birth, Guinea, ahead of Spain despite having represented La Furia Roja's U17 and U18 sides.

According to AS, the 18-year-old midfielder's father met with representatives from Guinea, and has since confirmed that Moriba had made the decision to play for his African homeland, even though he has Spanish citizenship after arriving in the European country as a child.

It is believed that Moriba could receive a national team call-up for the African nation's upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Morocco and Guinea-Bissau in September.
