Aguero breaks silence on 'Messi clause'

World News

Sergio Aguero has broken his silence regarding claims that there is a release clause in his FC Barcelona contract that is directly related to Lionel Messi.

Messi's shock departure from the Camp Nou sparked a lot of speculation about Aguero's future, with it being reported that the former Manchester City star had a particular clause in his contract that could activate his release if the former Blaugrana No. 10 left the club.

While Aguero missed out on playing with Messi at club level, here are six players who have played with him at both club and national team level

It is understood that these reports were partly rooted in the forward's desire to play with Messi at club level, and upon his arrival in Catalonia, the ex-Atletico Madrid striker explicitly said that one of the reasons he joined the Spanish giants was to play alongside his friend and Argentina teammate.

However, Aguero has now set the record straight regarding the rumoured "Messi clause" in his Barca contract.

"I don't understand why there was talk of this. When I signed, Leo had nothing signed. They were coming to an agreement," Aguero told Catalan news outlet RAC1.

"It was invented that there was a clause, but there was nothing."

Aguero, who is yet to make his debut for Barca as he is currently injured, also commented on his recovery process.

"I'm fine," he added. "There's no forecast of when I'll be back, but I'm moving forward and maybe I can shorten some weeks of recovery."
