Xavi wants African star 'at all costs'

New FC Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has reportedly set his sights on an African superstar he wants "at all costs".

With the January transfer window on the horizon, many reports have suggested that Xavi is keen to strengthen his squad, and a Liverpool star is now said to be his top priority.

It seems there are a few positions he wants improvement in, particularly in the forward line with Sergio Aguero and Martin Braithwaite having sustained serious injuries and both unavailable until next year.

Ousmane Dembele and Ansu Fati have both also had new injury setbacks recently, which leaves the new coach with few options in attack as he looks to turn things around at Barca.

As a result, Xavi now wants Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah "at all costs", according to El Nacional.

The 29-year-old will be out of contract at Anfield in June 2023, and talks over a new deal with Liverpool have reportedly stuttered due to the player's salary demands.

According to the Daily Mail, though, the Reds are looking at the possibility of making Salah their highest-paid player in order to keep him.

The Pharaohs talisman has been in red-hot form this season, having scored 15 goals and bagged six assists in just 15 appearances across all club competitions.

Xavi has previously shared his admiration for Salah too, saying at the time that he was among the 10 best players in the game.

"Salah is one of the top 10 players in the world right now and always gives his best performance," the Spaniard said following the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup final.

"I've watched him in the final, he is a great player and deserves to get the best player of the tournament award."
