The individual carrying the knife reportedly confronted a Palmeiras player before his teammates charged the crazed fan to avoid an attack from taking place.

It is said that Sao Paulo players then also got involved and dragged the man away, while also stopping other supporters from approaching some of their opponents, with the knife being picked up from the floor and given to the referee to be removed from the pitch.
