Cristiano Ronaldo has inched closer to Ali Daei's all-time international goalscoring record after netting his 104th goal for Portugal.
Reigning European champions Portugal concluded their preparations for the 2020 UEFA European Championship on Wednesday when they recorded a comprehensive 4-0 friendly victory over Israel.
Ronaldo, who is the Selecao's all-time leading goalscorer, extended his record to 104 goals for the national team with a well-taken strike just before half-time, with Bruno Fernandes (two goals) and Joao Cancelo the other players who got on the scoresheet.
The 36-year-old's latest effort means he is now just five goals shy of the world record for the most international goals, which is currently held by former Iran international Ali Daei.
Daei, who is the only other male player alongside Ronaldo to have scored more than 100 times for his country, has held the record for 20 years, and netted an incredible 109 times for Iran during his playing career.
That tally could be surpassed at this year's UEFA European Championship, however, with Portugal having been drawn alongside Hungary, Germany and France in the group stage of the competition.
Ronaldo, who shares the record for the most goals overall at the Euros with Michel Platini, needs just five goals at the tournament to equal Daei's return, and will be hoping to fire his nation to back-to-back titles at the competition.
