The Blaugrana, who are understood to still be in a bit of a struggle financially, have now begun a transitional period under new boss Xavi Hernandez, who appears keen to give the younger players in his squad some much-needed minutes.

According to Sport, however, the Blues are eyeing up a move for 17-year-old Spanish wonderkid Gavi, who is out of contract at the end of next season.

Gavi is one of the most highly rated teenagers in the world right now, and has impressed for the club's senior side as well as the Spanish national team over the past few months.

The LaLiga giants are said to be hard at work to award the playmaker with a new contract to fend of interest from potential suitors, with negotiations reportedly moving swiftly.

Xavi's side handed Ansu Fati and Pedri new long-term deals earlier this season, and according to the Metro, they are now looking to tie Gavi down until 2026 with a contract that would include a staggering €1 billion (R17.7 billion) release clause.
