Tau's Anderlecht top four bid dented

World News

Percy Tau played the full 90 minutes for Anderlecht, who suffered a 2-1 loss away to Beerschot in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday.

Despite playing to back-to-back games for Bafana Bafana, Tau was named in Vincent Kompany's line-up just behind Lukas Nmecha.

It was the hosts who got the breakthrough on 29 minutes as Ismaila Cheick bagged his third goal of the campaign with a finish past Timon Wellenreuther.

Beerschot started the second half in similar fashion to the first, although they got an early goal on this occasions through Raphael Holzhauser's strike.

Unfortunately for Anderlecht, they were unable to find a way past Mike Vanhamel who produced a couple key saves to keep the hosts ahead.

After Tau had a shot kept out by Vanhamel, Nmecha did pull a goal back for Anderlecht in the 87th minute, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as the hosts held on for the win.

The loss leaves Anderlecht in seventh spot, two points adrift of the top four.
