Lewandowski makes Ballon d'Or claim

World News

Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski has given his take on his chances of winning the 2021 Ballon d'Or award after being named among the nominees for the prestigious accolade.

The Polish centre-forward has had a blistering 2021 to date, having already netted 39 goals for the Bavarians in this calendar year.

Although Lewandowski was considered by many to be the favourite to win the accolade in 2020, France Football decided against handing out the award altogether due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, all is not lost as the former Borussia Dortmund striker has once again been nominated for the prestigious prize, and he believes his recent achievements should do the talking.

"The possibility of winning the Ballon d'Or means a lot to me, it makes me feel proud," Lewandowski told Marca.

"If you look at everything I've achieved, not just this year, last year as well when they cancelled the ceremony, I've won a lot of titles, scored a lot of goals.

"It would mean a lot to me to win it, having won the Champions League, the Super Cup, the Club World Cup. Breaking Gerd Muller's record of 41 Bundesliga goals was also a big achievement, one which made me very proud and happy.

"Everyone can see what I have done and keep doing. My achievements speak for themselves because my last two years have been a big achievement, not just for me but for any player in history."
