Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi will reportedly be left out of Argentina’s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers and the reason for his omission has seemingly been revealed.
Earlier this month, the French giants announced that the forward had tested positive for COVID-19 and started self-isolating in his home nation.
Along with Messi, Juan Bernat, Sergio Rico and Nathan Bitumazala all contracted the virus but it appears to be affecting the veteran a bit more than his counterparts.

According to ESPN Argentina, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is ruled out of PSG's clash with Stade Brestois 29 this weekend amid an ongoing struggle to recover from Covid despite Messi already testing negative on January 5th.
The report adds that the player will not be heading off to South America in the upcoming international break as he slowly heals from the after-effects of the virus.
The tricky forward is believed to be keen to stay in Paris and work his way back to the fitness level required to play in a Mauricio Pochettino side.
This news will be a blow for La Albiceleste’s head coach Lionel Scaloni, who will lead his side in their WCQ's ties against Chile and Colombia on January 28 and February 1.
