Alex Pato snapped up on free transfer

World News

After a period of nearly six months without a club, former Brazil star Alexandre Pato has been snapped up on a free transfer by MLS side Orlando City.

Pato, who had been a free agent since leaving São Paulo in August last year, has signed a one-year deal with the United States club for the entirety of the 2021 Major League Soccer (MLS) campaign.

"Orlando City SC has signed 31-year-old forward Alexandre Rodrigues da Silva, commonly known as Alexandre Pato, to a one-year deal as a free agent..." the club announced in an official statement over the weekend.

The 31-year-old arrives in the States with a wealth of experience to his name, having previously played for the likes of AC Milan, Villarreal and Chelsea, while he also previously enjoyed spells in his homeland, with Corinthians, and in China, with Tianjin Tianhai.

Pato, who boasts 10 goals in 27 international appearances for Brazil, is the latest high-profile player to join Orlando in recent years, following the likes of countryman Kaka and former Manchester United star Nani, among others.
