Reigning CAF Africa Cup of Nations champions Algeria climbed five places in the latest FIFA rankings, but are still some way behind the continent's leading side.

Les Verts enjoyed the greatest climb of any African nation in the latest FIFA rankings, jumping from 35th to 30th in the standings after impressive performances against Nigeria and Mexico during the latest international break.

However, the North African giants' rise was not enough to see them claim the honour of being the continent's highest-ranked nation, with that title instead going to Senegal, who have ranked 21st in the world.

The Lions of Teranga have topped the CAF standings in the FIFA rankings since November 2018 and currently hold a 42-point lead over nearest competitors Tunisia, who dropped to 26th place in the latest chart.

Nigeria, who are ranked 32nd, feature just one point behind Algeria in the battle for a spot on Africa's podium, while 39th-placed Morocco round out the top five ahead of the likes of Ghana, Egypt, Cameroon, Mali and Burkina Faso.

Elsewhere, Bafana Bafana have suffered another drop in the rankings and are now 72nd in the world, the 14th best of any country from the African continent.
