However, the biggest talking point in the match came late in the second half when Gers star Glen Kamara clashed with Slavia's Ondrej Kudela after the Czech international reportedly uttered racist comments to the Finnish midfielder.

Kudela was seen whispering something into Kamara's ear which prompted a furious reaction from the 25-year-old and his teammates Connor Goldson and Bongani Zungu, while Rangers boss Steven Gerrard later revealed that his player had claimed to have been racially abused.

"My player tells me he was racially abused," Gerrard said, per BBC Sport. "The disappointing thing is that their people are trying to defend their player and calling us liars.

"I feel angry. I know Glen and trust him 100%. The Slavia player has caused this and something needs to happen quickly but that is above me. But whatever happens, I stand next to Glen. I don't even feel like talking about football just now. It's over to UEFA now and I just hope it doesn't get pushed under the carpet..."

Gerrard was seen involved in a heated argument with members of the Slavia coaching staff, before tensions reportedly spilled over into the tunnel after the match, with the Czech side claiming that one of their players was physically assaulted.

This has been denied by the Rangers camp, although UEFA have confirmed that an investigation has been opened into the matter and that it will be fully probed once tha match official's report has been received.

"UEFA is aware of an incident which occurred in the tunnel after the end of the match and which involved some players of both teams," the statement said, per The Athletic. "We are waiting to receive detailed reports of the match officials who were present at the game before commenting further."
