Manchester United 2-1 Villarreal CF
Cristiano Ronaldo came to Manchester United’s aid with a late finish that led to a 2-1 victory over Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League Group F on Wednesday evening.
The LaLiga outfit troubled the Red Devils earlier on with numerous shots until Paco Alcacer showed up after halftime with the opener only for Alex Telles to level it up moments later.
United did have the last laugh though as Ronaldo bagged the winner in the dying minutes to give his side their first win in this season’s tournament.
Juventus 1-0 Chelsea
Reigning champions Chelsea lost back-to-back matches for the first time this season after going down 1-0 to Juventus in a Group H encounter.
The defeat comes days after the Blues went down at home to Manchester City in the Premier League, as Federico Chiesa struck right at the start of the second half to give Juve victory.
Bayern Munich 5-0 Dynamo Kyiv
Bayern Munich crushed Dynamo Kyiv 5-0 to cement top spot at the top of Group E, with star forward Robert Lewandowski netting a brace.
This thumping comes hot on the battering of FC Barcelona in the group stage opener, as Lewandowski’s first half double with one from the penalty-spot set the tone.
The Pole’s double followed second half finishes from Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane and Cameroonian Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
Benfica 3-0 FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona suffered back-to-back losses in Group E as SL Benfica ran out 3-0 victors to heap more pressure on embattled manager Ronald Koeman.
Uruguayan Darwin Nanchez netted the opener early on before grabbing a brace with a penalty whilst Rafa Silva secured the third before Barca had Eric Garcia dismissed late on.
RB Salzburg 2-1 LOSC Lille
RB Salzburg climbed to the top of Group G in the Champions League after recording a 2-1 victory over LOSC Lille at the Red Bull Arena.
Two penalties either side of the half from Karim Adeyemi was all it took to see the Austrians to victory, whilst Burak Yilmaz provided Lille’s consolation.
VfL Wolfsburg 1-1 Sevilla
Sevilla needed a late penalty to settle for a 1-1 draw against VfL Wolfsburg at the Wolfsburg Arena in Group G’s other clash.
Swiss international Renato Steffen provided the host the lead early in the second half and had Joshua Guilavogui dismissed a little later before Ivan Rakitic levelled from the spot late on.
