Borussia Dortmund fluffed a host of chances to settle for a goalless draw against FC Barcelona in their UEFA Champions League Group F opener at home.

Dortmund missed a big opportunity to take all three points in the 55th minute, as Marco Reus failed to beat Marc Andre Ter Stegen from the penalty spot while Julian Brandt hit the woodwork late on.

Napoli 2-0 Liverpool

Holders Liverpool succumbed to a 2-0 loss away to Napoli in a repeat of last year’s group stage encounter in Group E.

Napoli left it late though as Dries Mertens fired home from the penalty spot, before Fernando Llorente added the cherry on top in the dying stages.

Chelsea 0-1 Valencia

Chelsea’s return to the Champions League stage hit a snag following a 1-0 defeat to LaLiga outfit Valencia at Stamford Bridge in Group H.

The Europa League winners missed good chances to go in front and were punished by Rodrigo, who netted the winner in the 74th minute.

Chelsea had a chance to level from the penalty spot after the Video Assistant Review (VAR) ruled a handball on Daniel Wass. Ross Barkley failed to profit after hitting the woodwork, as Los Che bagged all the points.

Benfica 1-2 RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig’s got their campaign off the right notes with a 2-1 triumph away to Benfica at the Estadio da Luz.

Timo Werner came up with Leipzig's two goals in the final 20 minutes, whilst Haris Seferovic hit the consolation in the final six minute for the Portuguese outfit.

Salzburg 6-2 Genk

Salzburg showed Genk no mercy in Group E after a 6-2 obliteration on Tuesday evening.

Erling Haland stole the show with a hat-trick, while Hwang Hee-Chan, Dominik Szoboszlai and Andreas Ulmer also got on the score-sheet.

Jhon Lucumi and Mbwanna Samatta bagged the consolation goals for the Belgian outfit.

Ajax Amsterdam 3-0 Lille

Ajax Amsterdam ascended to the top of Group E following a comfortable 3-0 victory over Lille at the Amsterdam Arena.

Quincy Promes granted the Dutch heavyweights the lead on 18 minutes which Edson Alvarez doubled after 50 minutes, while Nicolas Tagliafico added the third goal 12 minutes later.
