Stade Rennes 1-2 Chelsea
Chelsea progressed to the UEFA Champions League last 16 following a late 2-1 win over Stade Rennes in Group E on Tuesday evening.
Thiago Silva returned after starting Saturday’s win over Newcastle United on the bench, with Jorginho and Callum Hudson-Odoi coming in as the other key changes for the Blues.
Hudson-Odoi put the Premier League side ahead midway in the first half with a smart finish, but Rennes replied five minutes from regulation time through the head of Serhou Guirassy.
Frank Lampard made a late gamble with the introduction of Olivier Giroud, and it paid dividends when the Frenchman came up with the winner in stoppage time.
FC Krasnodar 1-2 Sevilla
Sevilla joined Chelsea in the knockout stages of the competition through a 2-1 victory away at FC Krasnodar.
Former FC Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic gave the hosts a fourth minute lead, but the visiting side responded early in the first half through Wamberto.
As the match seemed to head for a goalless draw, Munir El Haddadi came up with the goods for Sevilla deep in stoppage time, leaving the home side heartbroken in the process.
